Istanbul Technical University Department of Industrial Design collaborates with Braun to “Bring the Past Forward.”

Istanbul, March 3 – As part of a dynamic collaboration between the ITU Department of Industrial Design and Braun to foster creativity and innovation in product design, the traveling exhibition "Dieter Rams: A Look Back and Ahead," featuring the work of industrial design legend Dieter Rams, meets its visitors in Istanbul.

Dieter Rams, who left his mark on the second half of the 20th century with over 350 products designed for Braun and Vitsœ, is a pioneer of modern design with his principles of simplicity, functionality, and sustainability. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to deeply understand his "Less, but better" philosophy and design vision by emphasizing the evolution of Rams' design approach and its significance in today’s sustainability discussions.

Exhibition Details:
Curated by Dieter Rams alongside Klaus Klemp, the exhibition features designs from Rams' private collection, archival photographs, and documents. The exhibition was developed with reference to the "Catalogue Raisonné" published by Phaidon in 2020, offering an in-depth look into Rams' world of design.

Since the 1970s, Rams has advocated for the longevity of objects and an environmentally conscious approach to design, developing the principle now known as "utilitarian aesthetics." He is renowned for his tenet: "Good design is environmentally-friendly. Design makes an important contribution to the preservation of the environment. It conserves resources and minimizes physical and visual pollution throughout the lifecycle of the product."
